Is Happiness Real or a Distortion

I often wake up mid thought and yesterday, I woke up with happiness on my mind. I was wondering if it's an illusion or something real that has become distorted.

This year I have been doing some deep inner work using Oracle cards, and yesterday after feeding the cats and having my first cup of coffee, I did a five-card spread and I wanted to share my thoughts on one of the cards I pulled, Oshun of the Dance: Happiness, Bliss and Gratitude.

As a society, we seem to be welcoming this distortion of reality. Thanks to AI, we are starting to have to question everything, and due to the fact that profits and power trump everything, including truth, we can't just take things at face value. We must be willing to dig deeper and question the status quo.

With this pull I thought about how the movement of body, soul and spirit leaves a residue of happiness, bliss and gratitude, without the words ever entering the psyche, mouth or ether. Just an impression on the mind that eventually levels out, leaving only sensation and memory.

That's the true depth of happiness. It's being-wide and soul-deep. Surface happiness is easy to put on. Easy to fake. But to get beyond the curling up of the lips to unspeakable joy, you need to involve the entire body.

So maybe happiness isn’t the illusion — maybe the distortion is. In a world where truth feels manipulated and reality can be manufactured, surface joy is easy to imitate. But the kind of happiness Oshun of the Dance points to can’t be faked because it is embodied. It lives in movement, in breath, in the quiet residue left after body, soul and spirit have aligned. It doesn’t need proof or performance. It settles into memory as sensation. And perhaps that is how we recognise what is real — not by what we’re told, but by what we feel long after the moment has passed.
