During the summer of 2018 I started playing around with loops that then turned into songs. Can't Let Go was the second song I created with loops with a beautiful organic guitar part added by Frankie Lewis.
The hook was the first part of the song to materialize ...
Baby, I don't know what started me on this path
Baby, all I know is that I want it to last
Baby, I don't wanna be the one to let go
Baby, I think we better take it nice and slow
Once I knew where the music was going, that hook just popped into existence! I especially like the ethereal feel of the backing vocals and the lush harmonies which I recorded myself, double recording each harmony part to give the backing vox a big sound!
A huge thank you to Tom Wells at Mayfield Studios who did the final mix of the song! Tom is a joy to work with and was very patient with me as producer of the track. Getting to the final mix was a very collaborative effort resulting in one of my favourite releases to date!
It wasn't until after the song was finished and set off for mastering that I started thinking about the meaning of the song. It first, the meaning seemed obvious ... the singer is on a path that lead her to a love that she wants to last forever, right? Then I started looking at the lyrics from a person who might be obsessed with the other person; from a singular perspective and there is where the line gets blurred.
Ultimately, the song is open for interpretation. Click here for a free download of the song and let me know what you think.
